Nathan Gwilliam
Director of Strategic Verticals and Social Strategy
Nathan is the Director of Strategic Verticals and Social Strategy for DDM. He is responsible for planning, developing, marketing and managing a network of strategic vertical sites focused on mission-oriented and values-based topics. Nathan is also responsible for the company-wide social strategy across all products.
As a BYU student, he wrote the Adoption.com business plan, which won the BYU Business Plan Competition. Then, for 11 years Nathan grew Adoption.com to become the world’s most-used adoption service. For his work at Adoption.com, Nathan was inducted into the “Adoption Hall of Fame” by LDS Family Services, and received the “Best of the Decade” award from the BYU Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology.
Nathan has worked extensively as a digital media consultant. His first consulting project was Law.com, for which he developed the initial strategy and oversaw the initial site development. The owners sold Law.com for $20 million within 2 years of starting the project. Nathan consulted for FamilyLink as their Chief Revenue Officer, and increased revenue by $5 million in first year. FamilyLink Facebook app installs grew from 10 million to 60 million, becoming the 4th largest Facebook app and a top 100 US web property.
Nathan speaks Portuguese, and loves Brazil, where he has done extensive digital consulting. He created and implemented the social media strategy for Azul, a new Brazilian airline. In one year, he grew Azul social media followers from 5,000 to 1.6 million. He created and marketed a leading Brazilian travel social network and helped Azul become the fastest-growing airline in history. Nathan also lead the creation of Ofertas.com.br, a group-buying site like Groupon in Brazil, and WeSpeak.com, a language-learning social network to help Brazilians learn English.
Nathan is passionate about digital missionary work. He served for a year as the President of the More Good Foundation, leading the development of faith-promoting sites such as Christ.org, LDS.net, MormonChurch.com and ThomasMonson.com.
Nathan and his wife Crystal have three daughters. They enjoy riding horses, rock climbing, gardening and other adventures together. Nathan also enjoys triathlons.
